We know some of the best local places for a variety of foods. These are favorites:
Country Bakery and Farmstand
If you get off Route 80 at exit 310 (first marked exit after toll), the bakery is just before the stoplight in the tiny town of Delaware Water Gap. Fudge, ice cream, pies, breads, cakes, and fresh produce in season. The pot pies are a favorite.
Best sit down Italian close by. Just north of Fernwood on Route 209. Lasagna, meatballs, pasta fagioli favorites. See if you can sit there for an hour without hearing Volare. Well, it is a classic.
Sara and the kids like the coffee shop. Just north of Winona Falls Road on 209.
More family fun. South on 209 about 3 miles.
Muller's Coffee Shop
Great for breakfast; ask for Fran or Patti -- tell them Randy sent you. Favorite here is the breakfast quesadilla. Breakfast specials 6-10 am. South on 209 about 4-5 miles.
Big A's Steakhouse
Fancy steakhouse; nice bar. Appetizers anyone? South on 209 about 3-4 miles.
Blue Tequila @ Shannon Inn
Best Mexican nearby. Right at exit 309 off of 80. Check out the 60s mod motel in the back. Lunch specials.
There's a frequent shopper's card in the key box in kitchen. South on 209 about 3 miles. Fox Run Plaza shopping center has CVS, hardware store, liquor store and our favorite pizzeria.
Located on 209 in Marshall's Creek, this great local bar/restaurant features a horseshoe-shaped bar and a pool out back. Recommended: bar steak.
Pizzaro's Pizza & Italian Restaurant
Best local pizza. South on 209 about 3 miles, under CVS in Fox Run Plaza. They do take credit cards, and will sell you 6- or 12-packs of beer to go.
Practically New York prices, but this deli is just 1 mile from main gate on Winona Falls Road. Cases of beer. (Cash only).
Tastes of Portugal Bar-B-Q
South on 209 about 2-3 miles. Look for the red/green sign, next door to a Shell station. Meat pies outstanding. Not so crazy about the BBQ.
The Jewel and Keystone
Sam Snead was a famous golfer from last century. This non-chain has interesting memorabilia, and the food is good. We loved the patio firepit. Next door to Shawnee General Store on River Road.
Shawnee General Store
River Road, just as you enter the town of Shawnee. Incredible sandwiches; terrific Rueben, and the Water Gap sandwich killer. Save half for later.
If you get off route 80 at exit 310 and follow River Road, the old red building at the first stop sign is one of the oldest in the area. Actually used to be a stage coach stop. Rumored to have the best burgers in the area, if you can get served.
Very good diner; a little pricey. About 5 miles south on 209, across from Flea Market.
Exxon Station across from Flea Market
24 hour deli. Respectable meatball hero, breakfast sandwiches. About 5 miles south on 209.
Sticks & Stones
Very good bistro fare, located in shopping plaza behind Sonoco, about 3 miles south on 209.
